Bhaktivedanta Ashram Coimbatore conducted a seven days "Bhagavad Gita Course for Ladies" from 13th to 19th September 2006. Eleven ladies from different walks of life participated in the program.

In today’s world, women are subjected to great stress as they have to bear the twin burden of home as well as career. In the course of making ends meet we often tend to ignore the vital part of our self, which is the living force of our existence. The course was an attempt to educate ladies on the basic philosophy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita and therein engage them in devotional service.

In Bhagavad Gita (4.38), Lord Krishna says,

na hi jnanena sadrisham
pavitram iha vidyate
tat svayam yoga-samsiddhah
kalenatmani vindati

"In this world, there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism. And one who has become accomplished in the practice of devotional service enjoys this knowledge within himself in due course of time."

At the end of the course the participants took an oath in front of Srila Prabhupada’s picture to daily chant a minimum of two malas of Hare Krishna Maha-mantra, to read Bhagavad Gita As It Is regularly, to eat only prasadam (food offered to Krishna) and to associate more with other devotees.

Bhaktivedanta Ashram Coimbatore organizes Bhagavad Gita discourses every Sunday evening at its centre located at 82/113, West Ponnurangam Road, Opp. Eureka Forbes, in R.S. Puram. The discourse is accompanied by kirtans, bhajans, arati and a maha prasadam dinner feast. More such courses are planned for the future.
