Question: Where did religion originate from?

Could you please tell me where the caste system originated from, if the majority of hindus recognize it, and where the current caste system problems stem from.

I've been really interested in Hinduism. I like the views and ideals. I really want to be Hindu. How would I go about this? Do I need a guru?

What do the Vedas say about the suffering a new-born baby is under going, through no apparent fault of its own. I have heard that karma is the answer, but how does a new born child suffer any past life sins when it cannot even be sure of its existence, till its sustainable stage.

Question: Why is it that only cows are granted a special status in Hinduism? It is difficult to believe that God has preferences. As far as I understand, everything and everyone is equal in the eyes of God.

It has always been my understanding that the higher you go up in the 14 planetary systems, the subtler the inhabitant's bodies are. I concluded that the lower you go, the opposite is also true. But, I'm not so sure any more. Would you be able to clear this issue for me?
