Global climate change and abnormal weather patterns have nothing to do with pollution. It is nature’s (i.e. the divine Goddess’) natural reaction to an increase in sinful activity in the world. As the level of sinful activity increases (abortions, killing animals especially cows, non-performance of sacrifice, improper moral conduct of humanity, etc.) the nature withholds her gifts in the form of proper climate, rain, and natural abundance.
In Bhagavad Gita 9.19 Lord Krishna says he directly controls the climate change:
tapāmy aham ahaṁ varṣaṁ
nigṛhṇāmy utsṛjāmi ca
“O Arjuna, I control heat, the rain and the drought.”
Human’s have no power to destroy the earth, which is Goddess Lakshmi herself. Humans have no power to destroy the nature, which is Goddess Durga herself. Humans are powerless beings in this world, they can only reside, they can not create or destroy.
Due to sinful activities, the divine goddess can withhold rain, but Humans have no power to stop rain directly, only indirectly through their sinful activities which result in their punishment. Our pollution cannot stop rain, as rain is under the control of the gods.
Third chapter of Bhagavad Gita (3.11 to 3.14) describes this more:
devān bhāvayatānena
te devā bhāvayantu vaḥ
parasparaṁ bhāvayantaḥ
śreyaḥ param avāpsyatha
“The demigods, being pleased by sacrifices, will also please you, and thus, by cooperation between men and demigods, prosperity will reign for all.” (3.11)
iṣṭān bhogān hi vo devā
dāsyante yajña-bhāvitāḥ
tair dattān apradāyaibhyo
yo bhuṅkte stena eva saḥ
“In charge of the various necessities of life, the demigods, being satisfied by the performance of yajña [sacrifice], will supply all necessities to you. But he who enjoys such gifts without offering them to the demigods in return is certainly a thief.” (3.12)
annād bhavanti bhūtāni
parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ
yajñād bhavati parjanyo
yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ
“All living bodies subsist on food grains, which are produced from rains. Rains are produced by performance of yajña [sacrifice], and yajña is born of prescribed duties.” (3.14)
Elsewhere Srila Prabhupada says the following in regards to nature and the seasons being under divine control:
“We have experience that in some seasons the rains produce abundance and in other seasons there is scarcity. We have no control over the earth’s productiveness, for it is naturally under the full control of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By His order, the Lord can make the earth produce sufficiently or insufficiently. If a pious king rules the earth according to the śāstric injunctions, there will naturally be regular rainfall and sufficient produce to provide for all men. There will be no question of exploitation, for everyone will have enough.” – Srila Prabhupada purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 6.14.10
“The seasons are coming exactly, under the order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So when the king is a debauch or the president is a debauch, and the citizens are also debauch, there is restriction of supply by nature, under the order of the Supreme. Just like there is now petroleum problem. Now, by the order of the Supreme, the restriction is there.” – Srila Prabhupada lecture on Srimad Bhagavata, 1.15.38 (December 16, 1973)
