After Four Years Vaishnava the Cat Still Remembers My Room

Today Vaishnava the cat showed up in my room unexpectedly. Four years ago we had treated him for a terrible wound on his neck. The treatment took more than 7 months to complete, and for that duration he had to stay locked up in my small 10 foot x 12 foot room nonstop. I also had to stay locked up watching him for the seven months to make sure he wouldn’t pull off the bandages and scratch the wound. It was quite a terrible experience for both of us.

I don’t know how he cooperated and tolerated to stay in my room for 7 months without ever going outside, but somehow he did, and eventually he recovered after going through many complications. The first surgery failed and the wound tore open again when he got into a fight, so we had to go through the entire process a second time with another surgery.

After we finally released him he went back to being a wild cat, but once or twice a year he remembers my room and shows up to spend a night or two on my bed, before again disappearing for another year. I do see him outside about once a month, moving along our compound wall, usually around midnight. It’s hard to believe he recovered so well. You can’t even see a scar where the wound used to be.

Some pictures of the initial wound four years ago and the two surgeries to close it up:
